A Roadmap for Civil Discourse : The EAD Inquiry Deck
Based on the popularity of our New American History X Monticello mashup with the Feast of Reason, and inspired by the Civic Season Guidebook v2, we are ready to take this show on the road with the newly digitized Educating for American Democracy Inquiry Deck - providing a Roadmap for Civil Discourse, for engaged citizens of all ages. Let's talk it out , America!
You may choose to use this inquiry deck in a classroom, summer enrichment program, scout troop or other youth groups, campus clubs or just host your own pizza party with friends!
For teachers, you may wish to adapt these questions for younger learners and emerging readers. You may also request a hard copy of the card deck (while supplies last). If you are a museum educator, please join the Community Partners Group.
Last year, we collaborated with the Civic Season Design Fellows and our friends at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello to digitize their popular Feast of Reason card deck. We heard from folks across the country who were using the digital slide decks in classrooms, summer camps, college campuses and even a moving bus on a field trip! If you haven't checked it out yet, click the link below!
We were also inspired by the awesome Civic Season Guidebook v2 produced by the Civic Season Design Fellows. It was a nationwide road trip, and we thought, "How might we combine the 2?" (Check out the digital guidebook using the link below!)
This blog post gives you more ideas for using the Guide Book...
Our team at New American History LOVES a good mashup! As Champions of the EAD Roadmap Project and charter members of the Made by US coalition, we have created inquiry-based learning resources each year for the Civic Season. You may find them all here on our Civic Season Archives page!
We would LOVE to hear back from anyone using the EAD Inquiry Deck or any of our other Civic Season or New American History tools and resources. Please share your feedback with us via email (editor@newamericanhistory.org) or tag us on social media via Bluesky: @newamericanhistory.bsky.social—we promise to respond!
